As we enter 2024, we are thrilled that Sendhil has continued to be booked and busy. With high profiles roles in Max’s Doom Patrol as Rama aka Mr. 101 and his other projects including the reprisal of his role as villain Bloodwork aka Dr. Ramsey Rosso in the CW powerhouse show The Flash, Khensu in Cleopatra in Space on the Peacock Streaming platform and as Never Have I Ever as Devi’s dad, Mohan on Netflix.
Sendhil was also seen in a recurring role in NBC Universal’s New Amsterdam starring Ryan Eggold and Freema Agyeman. He appeared in NBC Universal’s Reverie as well, which was Sendhil’s most visible role since his time on Heroes as Mohinder Suresh. In Reverie, Sendhil played Paul Hammond alongside Sarah Shahi, Dennis Haysbert, Jessica Lu, and Kathryn Morris. Reverie aired on NBC the summer and fall of 2018. Sendhil was also seen in the independent film After Everything alongside Marisa Tomei and Shameless star Jeremy Allen White.
Sendhil’s roles span not only television but theater and film as well. Most recognizable from NBC’s Heroes as geneticist Mohinder Suresh and from USA Network’s Covert Affairs as Jai Wilcox, Sendhil has parlayed his exposure with a leading role in Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K.’s Shor in the City.
He also had a supporting role in Gurinder Chadha’s It’s a Wonderful Afterlife, as well as an appearance in 2012 as Raj, the boyfriend of Mindy Kaling’s Kelly Kapoor on NBC’s The Office. From 2013 to 2014, Sendhil took on the role of Assistant District Attorney Gabe Lowen the CW’s Beauty and the Beast and was seen on UK television as Governor Julian in Stan Lee’s UK series Lucky Man.
Born into a family of distinguished doctors, Sendhil originally attended Tufts University as a pre-med student, but after being cast in Timberlake Wertenbaker’s Our Country’s Good during his junior year, his career path took an abrupt turn from medicine to acting.
He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history and then attended the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Sendhil remained in London and appeared in stage productions including A Servant of Two Masters, and on ITV’s Ultimate Force and BBC’s Casualty before moving to New York City. There, he appeared in several stage productions including Indian Ink and East is East.
Sendhil returned to the stage in the Spring of 2019 as Imran in Rehana Lew Mirza’s Hatef**k, presented by WP Theater in partnership with Colt Coeur. Adrienne Campbell-Holt directs the work. Sendhil also appeared on the American soap opera Guiding Light as Lloyd, the faithful butler of Alexandra Spaulding.
His other television work includes roles in the Grey’s Anatomy pilot where he memorably played “Intern #2”, CSI: Miami, NBC miniseries In the Beginning, Psych and Numb3rs.
Sendhil’s other film work includes Love and Debate co-starring Lord of the Rings star Sean Astin, Blind Dating with Star Trek‘s Chris Pine, and cult favorite The Slammin’ Salmon with the Broken Lizard Troupe. (A bit of trivia; Broken Lizard’s Jay Chandrasekhar is Sendhil’s cousin.) Sendhil has also appeared in two short films directed by Mahesh Pailoor, 2001’s Little India, and 2007’s A Temporary Matter — a film based on Jhumpa Lahiri’s extraordinary short story.
In 2012, Sendhil reunited with Pailoor to produce and star in Brahmin Bulls, Mahesh Pailoor’s full length directorial debut. 2013 brought Sendhil to your movie screens again with Liz Garcia’s film The Lifeguard where he co-stared with Kristen Bell, Martin Starr, Amy Madigan, and Mamie Gummer.
In addition to his varied work in the entertainment industry, Sendhil has been active in numerous philanthropic organizations such as The Asia Society, the Nanubhai Education Foundation, the VJ Amritraj Foundation, Characters Unite, Pitt-Hopkins Syndrome International Network, and the American India Foundation.
